Why blog?

“The word blog is a shortened version of the term web log. When one writes a blog and maintains it by adding or removing entries that is called blogging. With blogging the author is not simply called an author but a blogger. And each piece that is written is not simply known as an article but as a blog post, post, or entry...Blogs can be written on just about any topic and are often like an online diary that allows the blogger to express his or her personal interests and views on everything and anything.”

Recently i attended a lecture about blogging, its origins, uses and so forth. Being new to blogging myself i found the lecture very insightful and informative. It is obvious to say that with the birth of the internet; information, opinions and views are far more readily available now than ever before. The internet has allowed us to gain and share information at the click of a button, thus introducing the idea of blogging. Although I have a limited experience of blogging I can already see the huge benefits it offers. Blogging allows us to share opinions and views on any subject on a world wide scale and allows us to exercise freedom of speech.
One thing that I have noticed after reading and commenting on many blogs is the mere fact blogging is mostly written in a more informal style, which I had come to expect seeing as blogging is open to the whole of society, and therefore we tend to use a more conversational, chatty style of writing. Could this, together with the growing use of slang words and abbreviations used in day to day life lead to an age in which correct grammatical sentencing and academic writing is a thing of the past?
I personally have been converted and thoroughly enjoy the world of blogging as it allows me to exercise my freedom of speech, offers me an alternate way of exercising my writing capabilities and allows me to view other peoples opinions on certain subject, therefore allowing me to gain a wider spectrum of opinions on a given subject.
